About Dr. Mamta Shaha

Dr. Mamta Shaha: An assistant professor of pediatrics at New York University, she is a board certified pediatrician. She is also a board certified ophthalmologist from Bombay University. Academically she has been actively involved with medical students and residents teaching through out her career. She has been also involved with American Academy of Pediatrics and has served on its research committee as the chapter representative. 

Jain Center of NY---One of the first life members of the Jain center of NY, She and her family has been regularly involved with monetary donations and religious activities at the New York Jain Center.

Eight yrs. ago, she had organized the first ever very successful Jain youth camp for JCA NY youths at Siddhachalam

She directed the play on life of Bhagwan Mahaveer Swami at the 2600 birth celebration (Mahaveer Jayanti) at NY JAIN Center

She also served on the Public Relations Committee of JCA NY at the recent Pratishtha Mahotsav and was instrumental in getting print and TV media coverage for the same.

JAINA---- Actively involved with JAINA for last 5-6 years, she organized the very first Women’s Forum at the recent JAINA convention at San Jose California, which was very successful.

She also arranged for the TV Asia coverage for the JAINA convention at San Jose California.

She has been Director for two years from NY Jain Center and served on various committees including Public Affairs committee, Patron Membership committee, Awards committee and The Long Range Planning committee.

She has always been actively involved with youth activities and had written a proposal for youth competitions for JAINA convention at Chicago with Mr. Vinay Vakani. It was rejected by then YJA office holders. It is a pleasure to know, her idea came to fruition at the last JAINA convention. 

Out side of JAINA and NY Jain Center--- She is actively involved with Gujarati Samaj of New York (a 2200 family life member strong organization). She has been the secretary of the Samaj. She has been working on the women’s committee for last 10 years. She had organized a tri state area women’s convention in 2004 where Kiran Bedi was the key note speaker.

She is a member and past President of the Long Island chapter of the vegetarian Vision society of New York.

She had organized first successful youth seminar at the Baroda Alumni association convention held at Daytona Beach Florida in 1992.

She is also actively involved with local school district and serves on its health committee.

Her hobbies and interests include playing tennis, swimming, traveling and music.
